Started boxing at age 12

At age 16 he won the Open Flyweight Championship at the Carolina Golden Gloves Tournament in Charlotte

After joining the US Air Force, he won the Armed Forces Flyweight Championship while serving in Alaska

After turning pro he was trained by Angleo Dundee and compiled a pro record of 28-6 and an overall record of 67-11

He was inducted into the Carolina's Boxing Hall of Fame in Charlotte in 2002

Fought at Madison Square Garden in the Eastern Golden Gloves Championship
