Chick-Fil-A Florence Athletic Hall Of Fame HOME INFORMATION INDUCTEES SPONSORS Tresco Wade Johnson4 Sport Letterman (football, baseball, boxing, wrestling) at Statesville, NC High School Turned Professional Boxer in 1921 Won the 1924 Southern Bantam Weight Championship Inducted into the Carolina's Boxing Hall of Fame in 2004 Started instructional boxing at the YMCA in Florence and the SC Industrial School for Boys in 1928 Started a boxing team at Florence High School from 1937-40 where he served as the volunteer coach Served as the Lion's Club President from 1938-39 with the club sponsoring boxing teams competing in the AAU Golden Gloves competitions in neighboring cities Started the Florence Golden Gloves Event which was held 1938-39, with the proceeds going to local charities Began the Florence Civil Air Patrol and held the rank of Captain in the Reserves Coached the Carolina's Champions in the New York AAU Tournament of Champions from 1939 until his death in 1948 Life member and National Committeeman of AAU Served as the Vice-President of the Carolina AAU Coached three members of the Carolina's Boxing Hall of Fame |
